We are not fully raw; we still enjoy cooked potatoes, and lentils; we have rolled oats for breakfast; we eat tofu. But we do include as much raw as we can in our diet and it makes us feel great. Energised. I love juicing fruits and greens and making them into ice pops. I love frozen bananas instead of shop-bought ice cream. I love raw, and semi-raw cakes and treats which contain no sugar or added sweetener, and no gluten, are actually good for me, and yet make me feel indulgent as they are superior in taste and feel-good factor to traditional sugar-laden sweets. I am excited about all the new things I have learned this year about raw foods and how good they make me feel and I am grateful to so many people who have shared their experiences so that I can learn more.
One of these people is Kristina Carrillo-Bucaram, better known as FullyRawKristina
This lady is a positive inspiration, and though many of us may not be in a position to live as she does – such large quantities organic fresh produce are very expensive – we can each do as much as we can within our own means and feel better for it. For example, I have found that when I tried to be fully raw I got too skinny and simply wasn’t eating enough. Now that I compromise by adding cooked potatoes and lentils, for example, to my raw fruit and veggies, I feel great, am back to my normal weight and still getting a very nutritious diet. I love this video because Kristina encourages us to look at her example, and take from it what works for us. It’s all about experimenting until we get it right and being our own best, our own happiest, in our own way.
I would love to be more vegetarian/vegan but I have so many allergies what can I do? For example I cannot do any nuts, chocolate, or bananas and that kills a ton of recipes. Any suggestions?

I do sympathise but there really are so many options you don’t need to worry. My husband has been vegan for many years and he too is allergic to bananas as well as grapes, kiwi, raisins … he can’t have more than a couple of nuts without getting an upset tummy; same with potatoes so he avoids these things. He’s ok with chocolate but doesn’t really like it so he doesn’t have that often either. But he loves food and enjoys a wide variety of vegan meals and treats. I don’t do many recipes because I have quite a narrow repertoire, being quite a boring eater by many people’s standards, but there are so many vegan recipe bloggers out there that there is so much to choose from to suit everyone’s tastes. Please don’t be discouraged – there really is something for everyone. 🙂

I recently discovered the joy of frozen bananas. They were so good I thought, “Are these legal?”

Ha ha 😀 I know, and you wish you’d discovered them sooner. Why has it been kept secret for so long??? 🙂 Have you tried them covered in chocolate and rolled in chopped nuts?? Oh my goodness!!!

Violet – I swear you are hilarious. No to the chocolates and chopped nuts. I haven’t got the non-dairy chocolate thing down yet. Nuts I can do. I buy a ‘bunch’ (pun intended) of bananas and let some get extra ripe to make banana bread – without sugar and eggs, etc.. Sometimes I end up with more than I planned and I freeze those – so I stumbled upon this. But I will definitely try the choco and nuts. Thanks. 🙂

If you’re looking for vegan chocolate that tastes like milk chocolate you should try Organica Couverture see here: http://www.veganstore.co.uk/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=1&Product_Code=003&Category_Code=510#.VDUQ1pRdXzI They even do a vegan white chocolate 🙂

Hey. Thanks for that. I will check on local sources. The last time someone mailed a chocolate bar to me in Florida in June . . . Not pretty (the *mail complex* is in the direct sun all day). And I’m checking the local organic store which if you’re interested and just fyi is http://rollinoats.com/ – opened the year I moved to St. Petersburg. Which I did not know until just now. I’m rambling. Thanks!

You’re welcome. If they don’t have it, maybe you could mail order some in the winter? 😉 Do you get winter there?

We get Florida winter. Which is, maybe, 20-25C and often higher. Last winter was great – months of sub 25C days and cool nights. Still, I’m afraid the melt factor would be high. I checked with a local organic food store – they have some vegan chocolate bars. Meant to go yesterday. I could buy from Amazon – but you have to buy a case and I have found it dangerous to buy a case of chocolate anything.

Well, that’s great that your local place has some. Phew! I was getting worried that you were chocolate deficient! 😉

I have not had chocolate since April. I think that qualifies as a choco deficiency.

Oh my goodness! That just goes to prove there’s always someone worse off than yourself and we shouldn’t complain about our perceived problems when others don’t even have chocolate. Hope you get some soon 😉

That . . . was hilarious. 😀

You’ll be happy to know I got vegan chocolate and a vegan chocolate oat bar. It was typical America _ the chocolate isle had about 500 items w/ the vegan stuff buried among the rest. I took a pic…just because it’s so nutty….no pun intended

Oh I’m so relieved! And where’s the pic? Did you forget to attach? It’s not here – and btw, it’s not just America, it’s the same over here. The chances of finding ethical chocolate in a supermarket are very small, you need a health food shop.
