It’s way past time for a new Fairy Tale and, since we’re approaching Halloween it’s the perfect time.  So, on Monday, we’ll begin a scary new tale by Maud Earnshaw, illustrated by Beatrice Wilberforce:

The Wicked Witch’s Plan To Get Rid Of Everyone

Ooh, I’ve got shivers 😮

And, just to get you in the mood, here’s a poem (read it aloud, slowly) 🙂 :

“T-wit T-woo,” go the owls,

Sc-ratch and dangle, the spiders.

The witch is thinking, she frowns, she scowls,

New brooms fly by with riders.

A flickering light, the rising of smoke,

From the clearing, through the trees,

Gives away the location of quivering folk

Around the fire, on their knees.

***

In a fairy tale world with fairy tale rules

The wicked have much to fear.

They’ve been unkind, selfish, heartless fools,

Which won’t be tolerated here.

***

Fairy tales, creepy tales, mystical magic tales,

Castles and fairies and witches and ghosts.

Suspend disbelief for these ‘anything can happen’ tales,

Where innocents get rescued and evil gets smote.

  1. I’ve got chills too! 😀 I love fairy tales 😀 The world needs more good ones, so that the film makers have something to do. We do not need any more Cinderella films. More wicked witches – that what we need.

  7. Awesome!! I love a good fairy tale! Especially one with a wicked witch! I love the wicked witches in the Wizard of Oz – they are so scary and evil, perfect bad guys. And a plan to get rid of everyone! What more could an evil villain want? Ultimate world domination.

    Cool name too – Beatrice Wilberforce 🙂 I wonder if it’s her real name or if it’s a pseudonym. Some people are just born lucky, and then others have great imagination. I have quite an ordinary name, and if I was going to be a writer or a painter or a rock star, I would change it to something cool like Anastasia Peanut Butter Tolstoy. But is that going too far? People probably wouldn’t say things like: I wonder if that’s her real name…
    But a new fairy tale! That is awesome news. 😀
    I think I’ll wait and read the less dark and sinister one first, cos that way I will lower myself in gently. 😉
