“Dear Giovanni wouldn’t eat a bird.”
“He wouldn’t eat a bird?”
“No, haven’t you heard?
Lovely Giovanni wouldn’t eat a bird,
Because he loves them dearly.”
“Dear Giovanni wouldn’t cook a bird.
He wouldn’t cook a bird
In his restaurant, take my word!
Kind-hearted Giovanni, beloved restauranteur,
Wouldn’t cook a bird, no sir!”
“Giovanni has a motto,
I don’t know if you’ve heard it,
He says ‘Don’t hurt friends,
Or friends of friends,
Because none of them deserve it.'”
I had fun painting this cityscape and the name for the restaurant, Giovanni’s, just popped into my head. Then, because I wanted to make a post in keeping with this week’s theme – birds – I wrote a quirky poem to go with it. Then I thought – wouldn’t it be great if there really was a vegan restaurant called Giovanni’s? So I googled and, guess what – there is! What are the chances???
Fantastic tantalising pictures pinched from The V Word.

Thanks Rhea 🙂
Since posting this, Rhea has been in touch (see comments below) and she, in turn, told Giovanni who also dropped us a line (see comments again). Anyway, I thought you might be interested in Giovanni’s fascinating story about how he became a vegan chef which is revealed in his interview with Green Door Magazine, so click here
Yum! Everything looks SO good, especially the “meat”balls. I wonder if they deliver across the continent…? 😉

I am Giovanni of Giovanni’s Pizza Grill. Rhea had forwarded me your post. We changed the name to The Green Palate Vege•Terranean Grill, last year. Feel free to “like” our page and post your poem! I hope you come visit for our award winning vegan cuisine in Woodstock. We are currently rated #1 on Trip Advisor for Woodstock and also won the “Taste of Woodstock” (27 restaurants) for “best main course”….our own Veggie Burger Sliders!!!
You can read more about us in the latest issue of “the green door magazine”… under “Vegan Catskills”
Wow! Thank you so much for dropping us a line, it’s great to hear from you. Congratulations on your restaurant’s success – it’s fantastic to hear that a vegan establishment is getting the recognition it deserves. I would absolutely love to visit and try your food in person but sadly I’m too far away (in the UK) though from the pictures on Rhea’s site I’m very tempted to apply for a passport. I will certainly pop over to your facebook page. Thanks again for getting in touch Giovanni, all the best, Violet xx
Vegan pizza never looked so scrumptious! Yum!
Mmm mmmm, gotta agree with you there 🙂 I keep fancying pizza lately, maybe this is a sign that I should have one 🙂
Hi Violet, it’s Rhea. I love this sooo much. I thought I would let you know that Giovanni’s in Woodstock is now The Green Palate Vege-Terranean Grill of Woodstock with even more amazing vegan food. Their Facebook page is here: https://www.facebook.com/thegreenpalategrill
And now I’m jealous. I want my own cartoon. 🙂
Hi Rhea, thank you so much for dropping us a line. Thank you for the update on Giovanni’s, I’m delighted it’s still going strong. I love your site, we must stay in touch 🙂
While I read this wonderful poem, I fancied it was recited by the beautiful feathery friend from Pay Attention 🙂 Lovely sketch and wonderful find.
Thank you Carmen 🙂
I am so hungry now!!!
Ha ha, yes it’s having that effect on lots of people 😀
of course, given that it’s a vegan site, i guess that makes sense. next time i won’t let sleep-deprived comments slip out.
Cheeky! Get some sleep and check out yesterday’s post 😉
