Beachcomber

shingle beach

Crack crunch shingle slides

Under my feet, the sand hides

Salt smells float on the breeze

It makes me smile, the scent of the seas

***

Waves crash, advance and retreat

Gulls call, for others to meet

But sharp tones, unnatural, manmade

Objects litter, spoil and invade

***

I lift and tidy, pick up the mess

Don’t allow plastic to spoil nature’s dress

Dangerous to some, others think it’s food

Getting it out of harm’s way makes me feel good

The saddest part of all is that most of the trash we find on our local beaches is child related: plastic sand shovels, juice boxes, diapers. Seems those who litter are busy training the next generation. 😐

    1. I know what you mean. I think when some people become parents it does make them think more about what kind of world they want their children to grow up in, but sadly that’s not true for all.

Depresses me when I visit the beach and see the mass of plastic along the tide line, maybe I should start picking it up too…

Thanks so much for the reblog. I just think, the people responsible for this mess are not going to clean it up, so either I do it, or it will just go back out to sea and ruin more lives. Thank you 🙂
