Beachcomber

shingle beach

Crack crunch shingle slides

Under my feet, the sand hides

Salt smells float on the breeze

It makes me smile, the scent of the seas

***

Waves crash, advance and retreat

Gulls call, for others to meet

But sharp tones, unnatural, manmade

Objects litter, spoil and invade

***

I lift and tidy, pick up the mess

Don’t allow plastic to spoil nature’s dress

Dangerous to some, others think it’s food

Getting it out of harm’s way makes me feel good

 litter on the beach

Nicely said. Like your imagery. Have you tried Haiku and a 5-7-5 form. It makes the poem flow easier. Thanks once again for reading so many of my poems. Glad you like them.

    1. No, I’m not really a poet, just like having fun with rhymes (like Spike Milligan – Silly Verse for Kids), but thank you for the tip 🙂 and for liking this one 🙂

As a “sea glass” collector I pick up plastics during my beachcombing trips. There seems to be a never ending supply of rubbish left along the shoreline at low tide. All that waste floating around our oceans causing such devastation is truly heartbreaking.

Such a lovely poem!! It has this unique beautiful sound to it, such harmonious words… And such an important message too! ^u^ I’ll start tidying up the beaches too, from now on! x3

Thank you for liking “Undead Love.” I like how this poem raises people’s awareness of plastic pollution in the world’s oceans. I did not know birds and other marine life mistake pieces of plastic as food and end up dying from ingesting too much plastic until I completed a project about this topic for one of my graphic design classes. Keep up the good work! 🙂
