and there’s lots more interesting facts about turkeys here, including the fact that, in the wild, baby turkeys stay with their mother all year and, though turkeys habitually roost (sleep) in trees, safe above ground level, babies are unable to fly for their first couple of weeks so their mother stays with them on the ground to keep them safe and warm until they are able to fly up into the tree with her.

It seemed appropriate to leave this one ’til now because inevitably people will start thinking ahead to Christmas once September gets here. And really, Big Blue Sky is a pre-Christmas story as opposed to a Christmas story because, since people tend to order their turkeys early, if they’re buying direct from the farmer, it would be good if they read this beforehand.

I have just come across this beautiful book at our local library and wanted to tell you about it. The illustrations are stunningly gorgeous and the honesty of the story is so refreshing and heart warming. Here are a few snippets ….
At this time of year when many of us are heart-broken in the knowledge that most people will celebrate the season of goodwill by taking the life of an innocent, it is so refreshing to find a story for children which, in spite of its honesty, fills us with hope.
