New from Lavender Laine: Wild Goose Chase

Come with us if you want to live.

Violet's Vegan Comics's avatarViolet's Vegan Comics

We do our best to inspire people towards veganism but are very careful not to push too hard. Ā We don’t want to frighten people away so we take the gently, gently approach with stories and colourful pictures and poems.

But after watching Cowspiracy in full yesterday I realise there isn’t actually time to do it gently.

If this planet and all its inhabitants have any chance of survival, the entire human population must make the transition to veganism NOW. Ā And when I say transition I don’t mean gradually, one meat-free day a week. Ā I mean now. Ā I mean overnight. Ā There’s no more time for gently gently. Ā Everyone needs to know about the urgency; about the crisis we are in.

World leaders and leading charities have shamefully kept quiet about the devastation caused by animal agriculture. Ā The destruction of the rainforests, the dead zones in the oceans, the pollution of the…

Historic Dairy Farm Becomes a Sanctuary and Serves up Vegan Ice Cream! | One Green Planet

ThomasSTL's avatarLife or Lunch?

Knowing the horror animals go through in the meat and dairy industry makes us want to rescue them all from such an existence … and that’s exactly what one community did.

The historic Lewis Oliver Farm located on the North Shore of Long Island was once home to a popular dairy farm.Ā The farm is estimated toĀ date back to the 1890sĀ and at its peakĀ held 63 cows on the milking line. After a successful run, the owner decided to retire and sold the cows and the farm in 1953, when it was turned into a petting zoo. However, when he decided to sell the property about 10 years ago, local residents, led by Pamela Veitch,Ā banded together to save the remaining animals. Together, the community created the non-profit,Ā Friends of the Farm,Ā a 501c-3 nonprofit organization made up entirely of volunteers.

Under the volunteer leadership, this former dairy has not only…

James Cameron’s Vegan Challenge to people of conscience

Violet's Vegan Comics's avatarViolet's Vegan Comics

Avatar

James Cameron is still a vegan — and he picked a massive celebration to remind the world.

The 58-year-old film-maker and ocean explorer was honored on June 13 during the National Geographic Society’s 125th anniversary gala with ā€œExplorer of the Yearā€ for his successful solo dive last year to the deepest point of the Pacific Ocean. During his speech, Cameron urged the packed house of scientists and explorers to consider dropping animal products and reap the benefits.

ā€œI’ve had an epiphany recently,ā€ Cameron said. ā€œI want to challenge all of you as people of deep conscience, people who are environment stewards of the earth and oceans … By changing what you eat, you will change the entire contract between the human species and the natural world.ā€

Cameron, who announced he’d gone vegan in October last year,Ā told the crowd that the switch had a huge impact on him. ā€œI felt like…

Purezza pizza!

12484858_565273700294926_378442921163795866_o

Yesterday I went with a friend to visit Purezza, the UK’s only plant-based pizzeria! Ā All their food is vegan, organic and environmentally friendly. Ā I had a brilliant time there! Ā The food was delicious! Ā I was blown away by the fantastic selection to choose from – I can’t wait to go back and try all the pizzas. Ā I had the Marinara pizza, which is tomato sauce, with garlic, oregano and basil, while my friend had the Margherita pizza, which is tomato sauce with cheese and basil. Ā They were absolutely gorgeous!! Ā Phenomenal flavours.

Purezza vegan plant based pizza delicious and wonderful for everyone!

Here you can see the starters and specials – I was very tempted by the garlic bread, I definitely want to get some of that next time! Ā I’d also like to try the Hoisin pizza, and the Nacho pizza!

Photo11310

Here they are! Ā I was so excited by the arrival of my pizza that I forgot to take a picture of it before I started eating! Ā This is the Marinara:

And this is the Margherita:

Photo11316

Here is a slice of mine – it’s really perfect pizza, so thin and soft and crunchy all at the same time.

Photo11317

Once we had finished our pizzas we could not resist the dessert menu! Ā I was just so thrilled by the selection! Ā I was very tempted by the Apple Pie Calzone, the Chocolate Brownie and the Cheesecake, especially as they all come with a scoop of ice cream! Ā But when we came to order, the waiter recommended the Chocolate Calzone, so I had that!

Photo11313

And I was very glad that I did! Ā The Chocolate Calzone is heavenly! Ā It’s a folded pizza with Italian chocolate spread, walnuts and pistachios!!! Ā And I chose to have it with chocolate ice cream. Ā Isn’t it beautiful? Ā It’s a work of art! Ā And it tastes so good too!

Photo11321

It was delicious! Ā I recommend it to you all.

Photo11323

As soon as I got home I wanted to go back. Ā I can’t wait to go back and try everything else on the menu! Ā I hope you can visit them too, and see how wonderful it all is! Ā The staff were really friendly and helpful, checking on us a few times to see that everything was great. Ā The music was lovely too.

Look what I’ve found!

Math and Science through Plant Exploration

marigold40's avatarThe Marigold School of Early Learning

Math and science are aspects of early childhood education that can be learned through plants. Ā Columbine and spider wart are two plants that have unique petals and leaves; each plant allows for children to learn about how a plant grows and incorporates numbers and patterns.

There are a couple of ways I will mention that a provocation for math and science can be set up for children to question, explore and learn from. Ā First I like to set up a potted plant or fresh cut flowers so that the children can admire the the plant and incorporate both art and literacy…

Eco-Friendly Projects

newcreation7788's avatarNew Creation Sewing

Do you know that American’s send 11 million tons of used textiles to landfills each year? Ā Many of these items are in great condition and simply get tossed into the trash can. Ā This averages out to about 65 pounds of textiles (clothing. linens, fabrics, etc) that head straight to the landfill.

Further, are you aware that synthetic (man-made fabrics) take many years to decompose (if they decompose at all-think about it, polyester is made from plastic water bottles and thus is essentially plastic). Ā  It can take 30-40 years for nylon to decompose whereas cotton takes about 1-6 months. Ā (Clothing decomposes faster if it is cut into stripes).

Imagine, if you will, taking these unwanted textiles/clothing and turning them into something useful-a new creation!

Here are some pictures of jeans that have been rescued from the Goodlwill and upcycled. Ā What do you upcycle? Ā And which of these is your favorite…

So here I am at Loving Hut in Belgium! Ā DSCN3354DSCN3278

Ā Tammy and I thought this was a fantastic place! Ā With fair trade organic lemonade! Ā And chocolate sponge cake!

We had cake first, of course, and this was fantastic. Ā Mmm tasty šŸ™‚

And then it was time to try the Loving Hut burger! Ā This was delicious in a toasted sesame bun with vegan cheese and gherkins and onion slices šŸ˜€

Here is a painting from inside the Loving Hut – it says “The best way of life, is the veggie way”

I visited the Loving Hut several times during my stay in Leuven. Ā I went back for chocolate chip cookies, more cake, and on Thursday I tried the Broccoli pasta met champignons en roomsaus! Ā Which was absolutely brilliant! Ā I loved it! Ā Unfortunately by this time in the week my camera battery had run out, so I couldn’t take a photograph. Ā I did draw a picture of it:

Miranda at Shavt

Shavt “Simply Healthy And Vegan Things” is a brilliant shop which I visited while I was in Belgium. Ā They have a great selection of vegan foods for meals, snacks and sweets as well as other things like lip balm!

Unfortunately my camera battery died after I took this picture. Ā But! Ā I want to recommend you go and look at these other blogs which have great posts to show off the wonders of Shavt!

Miranda at Greenway

I visited Greenway vegetarian restaurant! Ā I came here twice on my visit to Leuven, and it is a brilliant place. šŸ™‚ You can eat in or take-away, so I did both!DSCN3391

I arrived just when they had opened on my first visit! Ā DSCN3390

I had vegan spaghetti bolognese with toasted cashews on top to take-away! Ā It was fantastic and delicious!

Here you can see Jermaine posing with it in a cardboard box!Take away food in paper bag from Greenway vegetarian restaurant. Vegan Spaghetti bolognese. In the cardboard box with a toy cat.

And here he is with it on a plate! Ā Take away food in paper bag from Greenway vegetarian restaurant. Vegan Spaghetti bolognese.

DSCN3411 Take away food in paper bag from Greenway vegetarian restaurant. Vegan Spaghetti bolognese.

It really was brilliant food. Ā And excellent service from very friendly people!

On my second visit I chose a “wortelburger” from the menu, which I chose because it said it was vegan! Ā I have since discovered that “wortel” means “carrot” šŸ™‚ This was very tasty, in a toasted bun, with lettuce and pineapple! Ā Scrumptious!

DSCN3654

I highly recommend you visit this restaurant, they have a wide selection of tasty foods for all your preferences and desires! Ā I liked the seating too – I sat at a high table on a high stool with my feet dangling off the ground! Ā If that doesn’t sound appealing to you, don’t worry, there are lots of tables at conventional heights.
