Anti-whaling activist Paul Watson is free!

Good news! Anti-whaling activist Captain Paul Watson has been released from prison! Denmark has finally refused to extradite him to Japan.

β€œSometimes, going to jail is necessary to make your point. Every situation offers an opportunity, and this was another chance to shine a global spotlight on Japan’s illegal whaling in the Southern Ocean Sanctuary. If I had been sent to Japan, I might never have come home. I’m relieved that didn’t happen.” Stated Captain Paul Watson upon exiting Nuuk Detention Center in Greenland.

Thank you to Captain Paul Watson for all you do to protect the whales.

I toured Sea Shepherd’s Steve Irwin ship when it was in Melbourne about ten years. The organisation did the tours as fund-raisers in between campaigns. Such an inspirational group.
The ship itself has now been retired and moved to Newcastle in NSW, I think the intent is for it to be repaired and take another role in the organisation.

The ship itself was extraordinary and you’re right, it was a privilege to do a tour πŸ™‚
