I know everybody’s very busy, but you really need to see this – just the animation in the first 7 minutes if that’s all you can spare – but the rest of it really makes it real and drives home why Flos is so determined to make it stop.
And in the UK?

I just don’t understand how people working for fracking companies can do this. Are they insane? I mean it; I think they must have gone crazy. How can they live with themselves? And this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many other crazy things being done for the sake of money. Is there any hope for the human race?

I know, I was thinking the same thing. Have you heard of the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement: http://www.vhemt.org/ – encouraging people not to have children – “Phasing out the human race by voluntarily ceasing to breed will allow Earth’s biosphere to return to good health.” Makes you wonder doesn’t it?

I haven’t heard of VHEMT but I’ve heard environmental orgs talk about the idea. I agree that over-population is one of our main problems. I don’t want to upset anyone but I think that having more than the replacement number of two children is selfish and irresponsible in the current situation. I even considered not having any at all but the urge to procreate is strong! (Isn’t that the crux of the problem?) I can’t imagine life without my children but I do feel sorry about bringing them into this crazy world. Now that they’re starting to leave the nest it feels kind of like throwing them to the lions. 😦 At least there are two more people in the world that have been brought up to respect animals and the planet, and they may even do some good. I hope so.
How do you feel about population control? It’s a touchy subject for some because it brings up the spectre of eugenics and other contentious philosophies like baby girls being killed because of China’s one child policy (which was stopped recently).

I feel the same as you. I think education is key, as with everything else. If everyone reproduced responsibly so that population didn’t continue to escalate then things could be turned around if there’s a will to do it. Have you seen the movie ‘Idiocracy’? Brilliantly funny and perceptive film, the beginning touches on the issue we’re talking about 🙂
You may find the recent incident here in Canada of interest -a 4.4 magnitude earthquake shook the town of Fox Creek, Alberta. The earthquake would be the largest linked to hydraulic fracturing.

I remember reading comments from genealogy friends on FB in WV and what they were going through. Horrible.

Absolutely awful. It’s unbelievable that governments would allow this to happen to their citizens!

I probably shouldn’t say this out loud but–what do governments care as long as the cash hits their pockets and it doesn’t hit them personally…..>:(

I know what you mean, but I’m shocked by the sheer barefaced-ness of their corruption. With all the terrible consequences of fracking clear and indisputable, and all the public opposition, how dare they push forward with it? I can only assume that this UK government know they’re on their way out in the upcoming election so they’re going to shamelessly line their pockets while they still can – the public be damned!

Fracking has to stop, I agree. As with any other practice that means money to exploiters, it’s going to be hard to quash.

But it can be done. They’ve done it in Australia with the ‘Lock the Gate’ movement which is very encouraging. I just feel so sorry for those people in the US who have already had their homes and communities devastated by it.
