Said the chicken to the boy,

“I am a person just like you

With a life I want to enjoy.”

Said the chicken to the girl,

“I have feelings just like you,

I want to see my life unfurl.”

Said the chicken to the man,

“A short caged life is not for me,

Don’t want to end up in the pan!”

Don’t cook me in the pot!

I have a right to life you know,

Your dinner I am not!”

Said the bullock to the teacher,

“I live and breathe and feel you see,

Eating me is a crime against nature.”

Said the bullock to the mother,

“Just leave me alone to eat my grass,

Let me stay here with my brother.”

Said the bullock to the doctor,

“My flesh is bad for your arteries,

Try mushrooms, lentils, okra.”

Why can’t I live my whole life out

In peace on Earth like Heaven?”

“I don’t deserve to turn on a spit

For your village summer fayre.”

“The suckling pig you try to sell

Should be suckling from his mother.”

“It’s cruel to take me from my mum,

Let me be happy, free and wild.”

    Hey, it’s cool. Pizza, ice cream and chocolate is all I need. Vegetable pizza of course, olives, mushrooms, peppers, and zucchini or spinach.

    Your comic is wonderful, hopefully it can change the way children (and adults) think about eating meat. I write for some food processors, and this week I had to work on an article about a new trend where restaurants are serving family-sized meals that include full suckling pigs, huge haunches of lamb, and wide swaths of cows … it made me so sad!

      Thanks for your comment, I’m glad you like ‘I’m not dinner!’ I’m sorry you had to work on that horrible article, it sounds awful, but I wonder whether reading something like that might actually turn some people veggie because it will really bring home to them what they’re eating.
