It’s that time of year again 🙂

Remember the No Bake Blueberry Flapjacks?  Well, I didn’t have any blueberries so I decided to improvise with something wild – the blackberries are ready!

so many blackberries

So many blackberries and we only needed a few so we left plenty for others 🙂

And we saw plenty of others enjoying them.

I did sustain a nasty bramble injury – ouch!

But we got what we needed 😉

No-Bake Sugar-Free Apple and Blackberry Flapjacks

You’ll need:

chopped apple

4 small apples, peeled and chopped.

washed blackberries

Washed, freshly-picked blackberries

soaked pitted dates

Fresh dates, pitted and soaked for 1 hour.

I didn’t measure how many blackberries I had but you can tell from how they look on the plate (it’s a small sandwich plate).  The dates weighed 200g before they were pitted and soaked.

I used to love walking into the Batchwood in St.Albans, and eating the brambles as they ripened, a few a day, wonderful. Best wishes and blessings, Charles.

It was very idyllic, but will probably never happen again, as my parents who lived there are both dead, and the house is sold. They lived a few yards from the Batchwood, and when I visited, I went for a walk in the woods every day, and as I was always there when they ripened I had myself a feast. Best wishes and blessings, Charles. 🙂

I wish I liked them straight from the bramble – I love the idea of just picking my food and eating it as nature intended. I’ll have to work on acquiring the taste 🙂

Fortunately I have been a bit of a country bumpkin, and like foll as unaltered as possible, so am pleased to have moved to my new house, so that I can grow my own fruit and veg again, and not get it rapped in miles of terrible plastic. Best wishes and blessings, Charles.

I’m just trying to see where the best place is, as the garden has lots of trees, and much of it is too shady, but I’m sure I will get going soon. Charles.

In Scotland we always went out bramble/Blackberry gathering. I sometimes think we consumed as much as we gathered. Oh yes, many bleeding arms and legs but mum was always there to administer TLC and first aid.
