  1. How can eating animals be “a crime against nature” when animals themselves eat each other? Death and the eating of meat are inherent parts of the way nature works. Wouldn’t it be a worse crime against nature to remove all predatory killing and eating, and therefore remove population control?
I don’t mean to be a troll or anything, but it just doesn’t make any sense to me.

    • Thank you for your comments. 🙂
I will try to answer all of your questions.
Carnivorous animals should be predators. But humans are not carnivores. They are herbivores. Have you ever tried to kill a cow with your teeth and claws, tear it apart with your bare hands and eat it raw? That’s what natural carnivores are equipped to do. Naturally.
The only reason humans eat meat is that they like the taste. Or because they have been mislead to believe that we are meant to eat meat. That is partly why this story was written – some teachers and even doctors might tell you we need to eat meat because they have been mislead by other people who have been mislead. It is a tangled web, my friend. But you only need common sense to realise what is true.

Animal farming is the worst cause of global warming – worse than all transportation pollution put together. It is also is the reason there isn’t enough food for all the humans on the planet. We waste a lot of land growing food to feed to farm animals which only produces a fraction of the food you would get if you were growing plant crops for human consumption. Eating meat also leads to a lot of avoidable human diseases.
Humans don’t kill as natural predators; there is no natural balance in the meat industries. It is also incredibly horrifically cruel.

  2. I really enjoyed this comic! It was kid-friendly and very important. I read it to my children after I had them do a “food-not-food” sorting game. I am trying (hard) to encourage them NOT to want to eat meat. This helped a lot, thanks.

  5. Wonderful! My new years resolution is to go completely vegan. I have eaten vegan plus roadkill for some years but have still bought leather shoes and spun with sheep fleece. There are plenty of vegan shoes out there and have just sent off for some hemp for spinning.

    • Thank you so much Eileen. I’m sorry though that none of them are in printed form, but you can get this one and 3 others as Kindle books from Amazon so if your niece and nephew have a Kindle (or tablet with the free Kindle app) you could give it to them that way 🙂

      • Thanks Violet. I think they’re a bit young for Kindle but I’ll try to find out. It’s nice to see the beautiful art you’ve created and your efforts to spread veganism.

        • Thanks Eileen, it would be lovely to be able have them printed, particularly for small children, but that’s expensive and there are lots of environmental considerations. Maybe one day I’ll be in a position to have some made with recycled paper and eco-friendly vegetable inks, keep hope alive 😉

  7. Hey Violet! I really, really love “I’m Not Dinner,” and I’m wondering if the only way to purchase it is on Kindle. I’d love to have a print copy to keep in my family room. Let me know if you have anything like that. Thanks! Celeste 🙂

  10. Your comic is wonderful, hopefully it can change the way children (and adults) think about eating meat. I write for some food processors, and this week I had to work on an article about a new trend where restaurants are serving family-sized meals that include full suckling pigs, huge haunches of lamb, and wide swaths of cows … it made me so sad!

    • Thanks for your comment, I’m glad you like ‘I’m not dinner!’ I’m sorry you had to work on that horrible article, it sounds awful, but I wonder whether reading something like that might actually turn some people veggie because it will really bring home to them what they’re eating.

  11. Love it! I go veg at least three times a year and only have trouble sticking to it because meat is so “convenient.” Meat is everywhere. 😦
I’ve been thinking of vegging again, so I’m SO glad you stopped by my blog today!
You give me food for thought! (pun intended)

  12. Uhhh… sorry to say that I’m not vegan… I tried, really. I find your comics amazing, though. Simple, not very flashy, but very well-delivered. And I love how you drew the animals~! Way to spread vegan-ism~!

  13. This one made me cry too. I love pigs and the first one you drew so beautifully, capturing the essence of a pig’s true personality, more loyal than a dog and smarter than a 3-year-old toddler (according to a book I read along time ago called “The Good Good Pig.”

I’ve been vegetarian since 1986! I don’t buy products that test on animals either 🙂

  14. A lovely read, heart warming and simplistic, such a great way to introduce my two young vegan boys to the vegan world and such a good talking point as they asked lots of questions after reading this! Highly recommended for young vegans.
