  1. So clear and loving! Teaches kids about nutrition, shows it’s common and okay to make mistakes when talking to people who don’t yet know what we know, and models a more compassionate and effective way to educate ❤ I adore this! Thank you for creating and sharing. I'll definitely be using this with my students.

    • I know what you mean, that science bit at the end is a bit overwhelming but I didn’t want to be accused of over-simplifying. The way I look at it is quite simple: milk is a complete food for babies and is not meant for us when we’re fully weaned, especially that of another species; so clearly we’re meant to get our calcium from another source – and if you look it up you’ll find it’s abundant in so many plant foods. But it’s no good just eating calcium-rich foods and thinking that will suffice as the body needs all the different nutrients to work together. So, if you make sure you’re getting a wide variety of colourful fruits and veg (eat the rainbow as they say), especially plenty of different leafy greens, plus get your vitamin D (needed for calcium absorption) from the sun by getting outside for some fresh air and exercise every day, you should be covered! And I have to say from my own experience that since going vegan and giving up dairy I’ve never felt better. I never get ill. When people at work are dropping like flies from flu or a stomach bug, the most I get is a mild sore throat which is gone in a few hours. I’m not an expert by any means but it just makes sense to me 🙂 Happy New Year Carl

  4. Yeah I have been thinking it’s weird that we are all told dairy is a necessary food group! Plenty of people throughout history have never even had access to cows milk and there bones and teeth were fine!

    • I know, isn’t it funny that we just accept that we need cows’ milk because that’s what all the grown ups tell us, but as soon as we really think about it we wonder why we never questioned it before! Now it’s just so obvious that it’s not natural for us. Thanks for your comment 🙂

  5. HI Violet
i actually read this a few days ago and i found that i am still thinking of this – i never actually realised that cows produce milk just like humans did.. i am mindful of this now. Thank you so much.
