Quail noun
Oxford Dictionary definition: small game bird related to partridge.
Our definition: Quail are ground birds who are difficult to see in their breeding grounds where they remain in dense cover and steal away rather than flying. They are very small, with a stocky body, sturdy legs and long pointed wings which give them a distinctive shape. When they do fly, they have rapid wing beats and direct flight, quickly dropping back into cover. Quails are beautifully and finely marked.
This is a really good idea. The old dictionary could use some updating.
