If you were the kind of person who was brought up to eat meat and dairy but had an innate love and sympathy for animals, you might start to worry that raising them and killing them for food might hurt them. You might seek advice, asking – “is it done humanely?” or “do they suffer?”
If you asked a butcher or a farmer those questions and he told you – “oh no, don’t worry, they don’t suffer,” or “no, no, no, it’s all done very humanely” or “there are very strict rules in this country to ensure that there’s nothing cruel about it”, then you might hesitate to believe him, knowing that he has a vested interest in keeping you eating meat and therefore a motivation to deceive you on this point.

Have signed the petition. This is bizarre! How can they show compassion for animals when they have them on the menu! By doing so they are complicit in the cruelty and abuse these animals suffer.

I’ve been banned from my local animal sanctuary where I used to volunteer over the very same issue. The sanctuary mostless houses and rehomes . cats but they also have resident pigs, hens and ducks. They don’t have a cafe but they have Family Fun Days at which they put on barbecues (of meat). Last year one local vegan offered to pay for all the food served at the Fun Day so it could all be vegan. They turned him down. Yes indeed, they are SO giving the wrong message to kids. The irony is this sanctuary is called “The Humane Education Society” 😦

Crikey! What is wrong with these people? It’s like they’re in the twilight zone. We do our best not to be “vegan police”, not to criticise others who are doing their best for animals, because we are all at different stages of our compassion/enlightenment journey. But when people claim to care for ALL animals, and call themselves educators on the matter while at the same time KNOWINGLY causing the suffering of so many, how can we not SHOUT ABOUT IT? I just can’t get my head around this crazy double standard/hypocrisy. Thank you for sharing your story. 😦 I know you will do everything in your power to share this petition and end this absurdity 🙂
