When mankind retreats
And leaves abandoned,
Concrete slabs
And platforms hardened,
Nature returns
With soft root and stem
And swiftly reclaims
What was trampled by them.
She stretches and reaches,
She grows and she smothers
The cold ugly grey,
And with colour recovers.
