Love the Little House Books

Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder

I love Little House on the Prairie

And all the subsequent books.

I love Laura and Carrie and Mary,

Ma and Pa with his twinkly-eyed looks.

I love the descriptions of nature,

And how they lived back then,

Of them running barefoot in the summer,

And drying wild plums in the sun.

On the Banks of Plum Creek page 8

Self-sufficient and resourceful,

Ma and Pa knew how to get by;

From building a house and digging a well,

To using pumpkins to make apple pie.

As I read these books again and again,

I’m inspired to make, grow and sew,

To tell the time by position of sun,

And live by the seasons you know.

On the Banks of Plum Creek page 12

I imagine a vegan version

Of this hard but rewarding life,

Living with full appreciation

Of the Earth’s full spectrum of life.

  1. I loved those books, too. Great illustrations. Huge Holly Hobbie fan, too. Have you read the Miss Read Thrush Green and Fairacre Village series? I’ve read them a few times, I enjoy visiting the Cotswolds and the various characters and “intrigues.” I also like the Betsy-Tacey series by Maud Hart Lovelace…bygone era. Nice escape from a stress-filled world.

    • Fascinating. Is that because you are norwegian or you’re learning norwegian? That would be a really brilliant way to learn a new language – read a translation of one of your favourite books that you know so well 🙂

  2. Ah wow!! I feel so ignorant, I never knew it began in book form. My sister and I woulda watch little house every Sunday. I love LOVE love it. Harks from a completely different world to my own.

  3. I loved watching Little House on the TV but I didn’t realise there was a whole series of books. How lovely. I wish I had come across them sooner.
    Thanks for sharing. 🙂
